There is still no closure for the Sacco family after the Mankweng Regional Court postponed the case of Ramone Heymann (35) who was recently found guilty on three charges relating to the death of Shannon Sacco (16), to May.
The Grade 11 learner of Westenburg Secondary School died after she was hit by a car while walking home after school in March 2016.
Maphure Manamela of the Provincial Police Communications Centre recently confirmed that Heymann was found guilty on charges of culpable homicide, driving without a licence and failure to render assistance after an accident.
He was supposed to have been sentenced on Monday but the court postponed the matter for an unknown reason.
Shannon’s mother, Esmerelda Delport was at home when one of her daughter’s friends called to inform her about the accident. When she arrived at the scene paramedics had already placed her daughter on a stretcher and her face was covered in blood.
At a local hospital Delport had a final chance to have a conversation with Shannon even though doctors already indicated that her brain was no longer functioning. She passed away due to her injuries later that evening.
Heymann was arrested soon after the incident. He did not stop at the scene to wait for authorities but luckily someone followed him home and informed the Police of his whereabouts.
