Polokwane communities benefit from electrification projects

Polokwane Municipality has spent approximately R22 million since the beginning of the current financial year in its programme to electrify several villages in rural areas.
According to Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo, just over 520 households at Mokgokong Extension in Ga-Dikgale are beneficiaries of an electrification project that is currently at over 95% completion and is waiting to be energised. The total cost for this project is about R8 million and a total of 97 households will be benefitting from this project through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
In Mogabane Moshate, 750 households were electrified at a cost of approximately R10,5 million and have put bread on the table for about 106 families. The projects took eight months and was recently completed.
“The Molepo Chuene Maja cluster also had a share with Mothiba Ngwanamago and Ditšhweneng villages. The Mothiba Ngwanamago project will benefit 144 households at a cost of approximately R3,5 million and 32 families benefited from job opportunities through the EPWP programme. The project is now at over 95% and is waiting to be energised,” Mothapo reported.
The community of Ditšhweneng at Ga-Maja will have 74 households electrified. Eighteen families benefitted jobs from the project and the project cost is approximately R2,3 million. The project is currently at 95% and is waiting to be energised.
The electrification project at Mabokelele Extension in Moletji where 30 families benefited is completed and the project cost was R800 000. It created six job opportunities through the EPWP.
“Other projects still to be implemented as part of the current financial year’s projects include Boikhutsong, Sebati, Lekgothoane, Dihlophaneng and Molepo extentions. Preparations are under way for all these projects to commence,” Mothapo said.
