Stanford Lake College’s (SLC) junior Adventure Racing Team, the Badgers, took part in the Red Ants Rumble in the Magaliesberg recently and finished in fourth place in their category.
The 130 km race consisted of mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, orienteering and an obstacle course.
SLC marketer Beth Coetzee reports that the team, consisting of Danica Altenroxel, Marthinus Maritz, Heidi Katzke and Jarryd Gosling, tackled the first mountain biking leg amid a huge thunderstorm which made for extremely challenging conditions.
They really showed their mettle by
completing the spectacular running leg along the top ridge of the mountains in under seven hours, paddling 13 km on Hartebeespoort Dam, completing the night orienteering section in around five hours and reaching the finish in just under 24 hours.
