Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) Executive Mayor, John Mpe called members of the media to a briefing at the municipality’s offices in the city on Tuesday to celebrate CDM’s unqualified audit opinion for the 2017/18 financial year.
This after CDM received an award for this achievement from Premier Stan Mathabatha earlier in the day at a function at Sun Meropa. CDM also received an award for spending 100% of its Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funds for the same year.
Mpe took the opportunity to thank the media for its support and for spreading the message of CDM’s mission to provide sustainable services to its communities. “We cannot operate without our stakeholders and we ensure that all are involved. We even invite members of the opposition to our strategic planning sessions before making decisions,” Mpe explained.
Mpe ascribed CDM’s consistent positive audit outcomes to hard work and dedication. “The answer is to appoint the right people to do the job, whether it is qualified and experienced personnel with the required skills or service providers that are able to deliver quality work,” Mpe said.
According to Mpe, CDM received its 5th consecutive unqualified audit opinion, which means that the municipality’s financial management and governance remain sound and strong and that remedial measures have been taken in line with emphasis of being an accountable and transparent administration.
“We have done well and will strive to do even better in the future,” Mpe concluded.
