10 suspects arrested by Limpopo police during dismantling of possible trio crime syndiacte

The suspects were arrested in the Polokwane, Makhado and Mahwelereng clusters, respectively.

POLOKWANE – A concerted effort to fight incidents of trio crimes in crime-ridden areas of Limpopo has led to positive results following the dismantling of a possible trio crime, this week, says police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The operations led to the apprehension of ten suspects for business robberies, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects were arrested in the Polokwane, Makhado and Mahwelereng clusters, respectively.

“During the operations, nine firearms, 114 rounds of ammunition, two motor vehicles and suspected stolen properties were recovered,” Ngoepe said.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Musina, outside Makhado, for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. This, after a security officer employed by a local security company, was allegedly found in possession of a shotgun with seven shells, four 9mm pistols and 59 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“The suspect will be charged with illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and failure to safeguard firearms,” Ngoepe added.

Meanwhile, in the Apel policing area, under the Polokwane Cluster, four suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. During the arrest, two firearms, 42 rounds of ammunition and two motor vehicles were recovered.

In the Zebediela policing area, under the Mahwelereng Cluster, five suspects were arrested for a series of business robberies.

“The suspects, who were sought for a number of business robberies around Zebediela, were traced and arrested at different locations around the Ga-Rakgoatha, Mogotlane, Khureng and Mogoto villages. During the arrests, two 9mm pistols, six rounds of ammunition, a balaclava, gloves and 138 packets of cigarette swere confiscated.

The arrested suspects will appear before different Magistrate Courts soon.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has commended police units on the job well done and further expressed his appreciation for the role played by the community in supporting the police in their endeavor to fight any form of criminality in the province.
