POLOKWANE – It’s difficult being a teenager and navigating through adolescence. However, there are ways to work through it, whether it be in the activities teens take part in such as sport or culture, or the friends one keeps.

Review spoke to Capricorn High School learners to find out from them what the hardest part of being a teenager is.

Kgabo Kgadima – ” It’s difficult, especially when your peers don’t like you and act negatively towards you. It’s hard for people to think you’re a bad influence. “
Lethabo Koenaite -“Not being popular enough and peer pressure are some of the biggest issues we deal with as teens”
Happy Mokubedi – “The biggest struggle is trying not to be an outsider and fit in with the in crowd because otherwise you don’t get noticed”
Koketso Ngobeni – “The biggest challenge is not having enough support from friends. You just have to ignore negativity and focus on what really matters. It also helps to be able to remove yourself from situations that make you vulnerable to peer pressure.”
Mahlatse Malatji – “I think the hardest part of being a teenager is dealing with the rumors people spread. There are a lot of insecurities and people sometimes feel threatened by you because they see you as competition”
Tshegofatso Manamela – “I don’t think its too challenging. I am a social person and try to get along with as many people as possible. I just go with the flow so it becomes easier to navigate life”
Shalom Marara – “I think the biggest pressure comes from parents. They’ll see you a bit stressed and blow it out of proportion making it seem like you are depressed or something, when all it is is stress of dealing with the workload at school”
