Police looking for suspects responsible for attack on six off-campus Univen students

A 19-year-old student was gang raped during the incident

 

LIMPOPO – An all-inclusive operation, comprising members form Crime Intelligence, Detective service, the K9 and the Tracking Team, is currently underway to trace six unknown suspects who on Saturday night attacked and robbed six off-campus students from the University of Venda, Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlefela Mojapelo said.

A 19-year-old students was also gang raped during the incident, he added.

“At around 20:20 six unsuspecting students of the University of Venda were accosted in their different rented rooms. The armed suspects broke down the doors and after gaining entry into the rooms, robbed the victims of their valuables including cellphones and money. The marauding suspects thereafter dragged one of the student into nearby bushes and took turns in raping her, where they left her for dead before they fled the scene,” Mojapelo explained.

The police in Thohoyandou have since opened cases of house robbery and six counts of rape. Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Sergeant Nevhutalu at 072 611 7887 or call the Crime Stop toll free number 0860010111, Mojapelo concluded.
