Mayor visits school where all Gr 12’s failed

The Mayor of Mogalakwena, Andrina Matsemela last Friday urged learners of Senwane Secondary School at Ga-Molekwa to study hard.

LIMPOPO – She promised them all the necessary support for successful studies.

The purpose of the visit was to motivate and encourage learners, teachers and the school’s governing body, after the school’s Gr 12 learners all failed their Senior Certificate Examination at the end of 2018.

Matsemela learned that this poor performance could be attributed to a lack of teachers and resources.

With only 12 learners in Gr 12 last year, the school was among three schools in the province that produced a 0% matric pass rate.

She said that she was disappointed that the school has been running with only five teachers since 2016 and no efforts had been made to bring new teachers to assist.

The mayor promised to engage the Department of Education and Department of Social Development to find ways of improving the school’s results.

She also donated sanitary towels and pairs of school shoes to the needy learners.
