Limpopo Hawks arrest six for alleged fuel fraud and theft

They are alleged to have defrauded a company of approximately R1.8 million

LIMPOPO – The six suspects were arrested today (Friday, 15 February) during a sting operation in Siloam near Louis Trichardt.

Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke said the  group were arrested after investigations revealed that they were involved in alleged fraudulent activities where a company had lost approximately R1.8 million between January and October 2018.

“The  six suspects, two drivers and four petrol attendants, allegedly connived and unlawfully used the private company’s fuel cards to refuel their own private vehicles and withdraw cash to bribe the attendants in the process,” Maluleke explained.

All suspects, aged between 24 and 37, are expected to appear in the Dzananani Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of  fraud and theft .

“The possibility of more arrest cannot be ruled out,” Maluleke concluded.
