No arrests have been made yet in the attempted murder case opened in the wake of a shooting rampage at Cycad Estate during which a local businessman was allegedly targeted by a number of armed suspects last Wednesday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that the case is still being investigated and no arrests effected yet.
A 42-year-old male, whose name could not be provided by Ngoepe, alleged that had left his business in Nirvana at around 18:00 when he noticed a Nissan NP200 bakkie in close proximity and carrying four unknown and heavily armed men in the load box.
The suspects opened fire on the victim’s vehicle and continued shooting until the victim had reached Cycad Estate where he drove through the boomed security gate in an effort to escape, according to Maphure Manamela of the Provincial Police Communications Centre.
She added that the suspects continued their attack in the estate until the victim’s vehicle came to a standstill. He managed to flee on foot causing the attackers to also leave the scene.
No one was injured and the motive for the shooting is still being investigated.
