Heavy rains bring flooding to parts of Limpopo, wet weekend ahead for Polokwane

According to the South African Weather Service, there is a 100% chance of rain in Polokwane on Saturday, 16 February.

POLOKWANE – Heavy rains in the province have caused havoc in certain areas, bringing flooding with it.

This, after heavy rains flooded the Thavani Mall in Thohoyandou on Wednesday night, 13 February and more than 44mm of rain fell in Musina.

The eastern part of the province is currently under a flooding watch on the weather service’s website, including Tzaneen, Makhado, Musina, Giyani and other areas.

Polokwane is expected to have a wet weekend with rain forecast from today through to Saturday. The rain is due to a surface low off the coast of Mozambique.

According to the South African Weather Service’s website, around 20mm of rain is expected on Saturday with a 100% chance of rain predicted. Temperatures are also expected to drop down to low to mid twenties but will increase again from Sunday onwards.

Today, 14 February and tomorrow will see a 60% chance of rain with 10mm expected to fall on both Thursday and Friday.
