High water consumption leads to declining reservoirs, shortages expected

The municipality says they will deploy water tankers to provide temporary relief to affected areas as the matter is receiving attention.

POLOKWANE – Residents in the city are advised to use water sparingly in order to sustain supply to all areas, says the Municipality.

According to Communications Manager, Matshidiso Mothapo, high consumption in the city has made it difficult to sustain consistent water supply in the higher parts of the city, despite all systems in full operation.

“The city’s reservoirs experienced a sharp drop from an average of 12% to 4%. Reservoirs were restored to 10%, yesterday, and then dropped to an average of 4% again in the afternoon, making it a challenge to supply high areas as there is not enough pressure built up to push water to higher areas,” he explained.

Areas currently experiencing water shortages include parts of Flora Park, Serala View, Ster Park and Bendor.

“Residents are urged to take this alert seriously in order to avoid escalation of water shortage in the city,” Mothapo added.
