Life imprisonment for Emslie murderer

The Limpopo High Court sitting in Lephalale yesterday (Wednesday) sentenced Petrus Standford Moyo (29) to life imprisonment for the murder of medical practitioner Werner Emslie (55) on a farm outside the town on 20 September 2017.
He was further sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder, 30 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, one year for trespassing, 13 years for housebreaking and theft, three years for malicious damage to property, three years for escaping from lawful custody and nine years for theft.
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe, Moyo was part of a group of four armed suspects who shot and killed Emslie while he was sitting outside his house on a farm. The attackers fled the scene with the victims’ vehicle which was later found abandoned a few kilometres away, according to Ngoepe.
Within days after the incident Police arrested Moyo who later escaped from Police holding cells but was rearrested at Frankfort in the Free State on 18 October last year.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Jan Scheepers welcomed the sentencing and congratulated the investigating team on a job well done.
