Joint intelligence-led operations conducted in Tzaneen, Thohoyandou and Makhado yielded positive results on the weekend.
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe two suspects aged 25 and 40 years were arrested in Tzaneen on charges of theft under false pretence and possession of stolen property when Police pulled over an overloaded bakkie carrying 18 stolen vehicle tyres with an estimated value of R60 000.
Police also arrested another two suspects, aged 24 and 27 years, in connection with a series of burglaries in the Thohoyandou area.
Shoes, a microwave oven, a music system, five speakers, a toaster and dinner sets were recovered during the arrest, according to Ngoepe, who added that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly terrorised communities in the area for some time.
Ngoepe stated that Police made a major discovery of alleged stolen properties after a tip-off was received from community members about stolen items being stored in a certain house at Dan Village outside Ritavi.
Police quickly responded and searched the house where suspected stolen property estimated to be worth R300 000 were recovered. Seventy four brands of cell phones, headsets, notebooks and laptops were confiscated. Arrests are expected soon.
