#WFD – Crispy Beer Battered Onion Rings

For those that don't drink alcohol, you can replace the beer with sparkling or soda water.

POLOKWANE – Onion rings are the perfect accompaniment to most meals whether they’re an appetiser or a side dish.

While typically served as a side dish, onion rings can also be eaten on their own.

What’s for dinner makes things easy with this quick recipe for Crispy Beer Battered Onion Rings.

Ingredients

  1. 1 x cup cake flour
  2. 1 x sachet KNORR White Onion Soup
  3. 330ml beer
  4. sunflower oil (for deep frying)
  5. 3 x onions, sliced into rings and separated

Method

  1. Combine cake flour and the contents of the sachet of KNORR White Onion Soup in a large bowl then whisk in the beer to make a smooth batter
  2. Heat enough oil in a large frying pan – test to see if the oil is ready by dropping in a piece of onion, if ready the onion will start to sizzle
  3. Place ¼ of the onions in the batter and coat evenly then transfer straight to the hot oil
  4. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until crispy and golden brown
  5. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towel
  6. Repeat with the remaining onions and serve immediately.
