Excitement is running high at Stanford Lake College (SLC) where, for the first time in the school’s history, two anglers will represent the school and country overseas.
Martinus Maritz (Grade 11) and Jason Freestone (Grade 10) have been selected to compete in two separate fly fishing championships to be held in the Czech Republic later this year.
According to SLC Marketer, Beth Coetzee both Jason and Marthinus did well enough at the last two Youth Nationals, held in Douglas in 2018 and in the Western Cape in 2019 to qualify for the Youth Protea trials 2019 held on the Bushman’s River in KwaZulu-Natal earlier this month.
Jason was selected for the South African Sport Anglers and Casting Confederation (Sasacc) team which will compete in the Czech Youth Championship in May.
Marthinus was selected for the Youth Protea team which will compete in the Youth World Championships in the Czech Republic in August. Having made the Sasacc team last year, the experience gained will definitely help him do the best he can.
