Premier Stan Mathabatha decided to share his birthday cake with the cleaning staff at Mowaneng building last Thursday in appreciation for the dedicated way in which they execute their task.
Although his birthday was on 21 January Mathabatha could not plan anything special for the day because of his busy work schedule.
He said he wished to share a bigger cake with all the cleaning staff as he described them as ‘number one’ employees who deserve huge bonuses.
Mathabatha said his office regularly receives a lot of complaints but no one has ever complained about poor hygiene at the premises and applauded the cleaners for a job well done. “It is a privilege to celebrate a birthday because some people are unable to. I was reminded by my colleagues in Gauteng during the African National Congress National Executive Council lekgotla that it was my birthday. I completely forgot about it but I am happy that I could finally celebrate it with the province’s number one employees,” Mathabatha explained.
He reminded attendees that the term of the current administration was ending in April and thanked the cleaners for a good and healthy working relationship.
Anna Rambuda, who spoke on behalf of the cleaners said they were honoured and pleased to celebrate a birthday with Mathabatha and went on to mention that the gesture shows that the cleaning staff is also appreciated.
The celebration was cut short as Mathabatha had to rush to a meeting but the cleaning staff continued with the festivities as they enjoyed a cake and delicious meals.
