Scores of mourners flocked to Pietersburg Provincial Hospital’s recreational hall this afternoon (Thursday) to bid farewell to the Moshiga family that was killed in a horrific car accident on the N1 near Kranskop on Friday.
Lesiba and his wife Molebogeng, both pharmacists, perished with their two children Naledi and Marumo in a head on collision involving the vehicle they were travelling in and a truck. The memorial service was attended by friends, family, colleagues and politicians from various movements. Different speakers conveyed their deepest condolences to Lesiba and Molebogeng’s family and further described the pair and their two children as most loving and honest people. It was reported that Lesiba had served the Department of Health in different facilities before joining the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority where he was operating as an inspector law enforcement within the National Department of Health.
Earlier Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba said: “Losing four members of the family is a serious tragedy and as government we will work with the relevant departments and entities to support the family during this difficult period.”
It was learnt that Lesiba was not just a pharmacist but also an active erstwhile South African Students Congress activist, who championed many students’ struggles for better education. The African National Congress Provincial Secretary Soviet Lekganyane said the party has lost a cadre of high note with his family. He further said they will forever remain indebted to his unwavering commitment to the betterment of the lives of ordinary citizens.
The funeral for the Moshiga family is scheduled for Saturday at United Reformed Church in Serala View with the official programme expected to start at 07:00. Read the full story in next week’s edition of Polokwane Observer.
