Limpopo man dies after being struck by lightning

A 41-year-old man died after he was struck by lightening at his home in Ga-Botha village in the Moutse West outside Marble Hall.

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, says the tragic incident took place on Saturday at around 22:00 while he was allegedly carrying a speaker from a sound system.

“It is alleged the deceased was listening to music inside the house and he had put the sound speaker outside. When it started to rain heavily with lightning, the deceased went outside to collect the speaker and that’s when he got struck by the lightning.”

Emergency medical services declared the man was dead at the scene.

The deceased was identified as Daniel Maapoga.

The police are cautioning members of the community to be more alert during thunderstorms and to take necessary precautions, including taking shelter at safe places and switching off electronic devices to prevent more tragedies of this nature to occur.
