Municipality warns residents of job and residential site sale scam

A person, claiming to be a SAMWU member has been phoning people to deposit R5000 for them to be offered a job or allocated a residential site within municipal jurisdiction.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Local Municipality has urged members of the public seeking employment and residential sites, to be wary of fake communication that is spreading on various platforms.

Thipa Selela of the municipality’s Communications and Marketing Unit says a person, who is claiming to be a SAMWU member has been calling on people to deposit R5000 into his/her account for them to be offered a job or allocated a residential site within municipal jurisdiction.

“We would like to put on record that the municipality will never sell jobs. Caution must be taken especially if an applicant is asked to pay money. People are also warned that the municipality will never sell sites in that manner,” he said.

Selela concluded by urging anyone with information regarding this scam or victims thereof to alert police, the Polokwane Municipality’s Property Management on 015 290 2035 / 2223 / 2091 / 2677 as well as Human Resources on 015 290, 2035.

“The municipality is currently following up on this issue,” he said.
