Minister of Water and Sanitation, Gugile Nkwinti is ready to offer assistance to water service authorities, including the Polokwane and Capricorn District municipalities.
Nkwinti attended Polokwane Municipality’s water summit that was hosted in the city this morning (Thursday) and after listening to presentations from stakeholders which included the provincial Department of Water Affairs, Lepelle Northern Water and Polokwane Municipality, announced that he would meet with all water services authorities in the country tomorrow (Friday) to assess the water situation in the country and to determine to what extent the national department can assist to address challenges.
“Every authority should bring a one page list of challenges and recommendations,” the Minister said and added that he reckons that the major challenge for water service authorities is not lack or shortage of funds, but rather lack of capacity to manage the utilisation of the available funds.
A comprehensive report on the input and outcomes of the summit will be published in next Thursday’s edition.
