Limpopo senior vehicle examiner nabbed for fraud after allegedly issuing illegal roadworthy certificate to bus

The senior examiner, acting as management representative of Palale Private Vehicle testing Station, allegedly issued the certificate after the vehicle was tested and found to be unroadworthy

LIMPOPO – A 35-year-old senior examiner of vehicles at a testing station near Lephalale was arrested on a charge of fraud after allegedly issuing a roadworthy certificate to an unroadworthy vehicle.

According to a source within the Department of Transport, the suspect a senior examiner acting as Management representative of Palale Private Vehicle testing Station, allegedly issued the certificate after the bus was tested by the Gauteng municipal pounding authority and found to be unroadworthy. When the driver of bus attempted to leave the pound with the vehicle, the traffic chief reported the incident to the national authorities and an investigation ensued.

The Anti Fraud and corruption Unit Limpopo Department of Transport investigated the matter with National Department of Transport – Vehicle and Drivers license compliance Unit and the suspect was arrested in Lepahalale on Thursday, 17 January.

During the arrest more than 800 files, roadworthy applications, a cell phone and a computer was confiscated. More arrests are expected.

The suspects will appear before a local court soon on a charge of fraud.
