Samuel aspires to be as great as Isaac Newton one day

Having bagged two distinctions in life orientation and geography, Samuel Mathapo completed his Gr 12 at Westenburg Secondary School. He dreams of becoming a theoretical physicist one day.

POLOKWANE – “Throughout my schooling I have always been fascinated and excited by physical science.

“I enjoyed learning about phenomenons which are difficult for man to explain or define or even modify, which is why I want to study towards a Bachelor of Science degree in astrophysics and physics.

“Although the subject physics was not one of my best in terms of performance, I enjoy the challenge that comes with learning about it and mastering it. I am still awaiting feedback from one of the tertiary institutions I have applied too, but I am confident that I will get in one way or another and follow my dream,” he explained.

The 18-year-old says that his final year in high school was tough, nerve wrecking and challenging, however he managed to calm himself down and stay focused, which helped him to perform to the best of his ability and pave the way to a brighter future.

“I had to limit socialising, both in person and virtually, as the two keep one distracted, especially when one associates or hang around the wrong crowd, with no vision and drive to be better people in the future. I would like to encourage those younger than me to focus on their school work, and never leave work for tomorrow, because tomorrow has its own work and duties that need to be attended to.

“Everyday I studied after school, dedicating enough time to each and every subject, so that I don’t stay behind with my school work,” he added.

He says he is inspired by legendary physicians such as Micheal Faraday and Issac Newton, and says he would one day love to be as great and intelligent so that he can inspire and empower the community, to never stop dreaming, because dreams are possible to achieve, but only if one is persistent and works just as much as they dream.
