Top Cappies student sets her sights on a career in engineering

Capricorn High School's top matriculant of 2018, Pheladi Dikgale, walked away with seven distinctions in the Senior Certificate Examination.

POLOKWANE – Success came in all her subjects, distinguishing herself in English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, mathematics, life orientation, economics, geography and physical sciences. She expressed her excitement at this wonderful accomplishment and shared that it also came with feeling somewhat overwhelmed.

“I am happy and grateful to God, my family, friends and my teachers. My achievement made me realise just how many people had my back. I’m more grateful than anything, I am also proud,” she said.

When she completed her final exams last year, she didn’t doubt that she would receive good results, she said.

“It was only on the day before the results were issued that I started to doubt whether I had done enough.”

Her advice to matrics this year is simple: “It is a tough year, but putting in the hard work comes with results.

“I wouldn’t describe the journey as smooth but it was very consistent. When it got tough, I applied the same methods to get through it and it’s been worth the experience. I wouldn’t do it again but it’s been a learning experience,” she laughed.

She plans to study mechanical engineering at the University of Cape Town this year.
