Counterfeit Euros and US Dollars confiscated following car chase in Musina

€7 900 and $22 300 in counterfeit money was found during the arrest of three suspects

POLOKWANE – Three suspects were arrested on Thursday morning, 17 January with alleged counterfeit money in Musina after police acted on a tip off about a suspicious vehicle in the area.

According to police spokesperson, Constable Maphure Manamela , police were performing patrol duties along the N1, when they received the tip off.

“The members spotted the vehicle driving at a high speed and a car chase ensued. The vehicle was stopped around town and the perpetrators attempted to escape but they were eventually apprehended,” she explained.

Police searched the vehicle and seized the following:

– 79 × €100 notes
– 220 × $100 notes
– 6 × $50 notes

“Further investigations revealed that the suspects, earlier on, attempted to buy at one of the shops around town using the fake notes,” Manamela added.

The three suspects will soon appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrates Court on a charge of possession of counterfeit goods.
