Three members of Mitchell House’s Class of 2018 made their shool proud by earning eight distinctions each.
Michael Muchopa, Rithik Samuel and Dauda Sheni also broke new academic ground by becoming the first learners of the college to achieve eight distinctions in their final examinations.
All three wrote examinations in Advanced Program Mathematics where they attained above 80% in addition to their outstanding performances in their other subjects. “The three learners all received honours for academics during the course of the year and comfortably achieved the same standard in their final examinations,” Mitchell House Director of Marketing, Achsah Phoshoko said.
Rithik and Michael both intend to study Actuarial Science at either the University of Witwatersrand or University of Cape Town. Dauda has identified Mechatronics Engineering as his intended field of study.
Dauda and Rithik were identified by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) as part of the top 1% of all IEB candidates in Physical Sciences and Mathematics respectively.
Rithik and Dauda were offered bursaries by Stellenbosch University and Rithik was also awarded an Old Mutual Education Trust Scholarship.
Panashe Ndou was another high-flyer and got five distinctions. Panashe plans to study Mechanical Engineering abroad. Moeti Rasefate and Tebatso Madisha each achieved two distinctions.
“In total, 16 matriculants earned at least one distinction while distinctions were achieved in all subjects offered except Computer Applications Technology. The Class of 2018 improved on their prelim examination performances by an average of 8% and have performed very well in these examinations,” Phoshoko said and added that the learners earned a total of 43 distinctions and 25 of the matriculants obtained a Bachelor’s Degree pass.
