Mmane Joanah Foundation encourages young girls to make informed decisions when it comes to sex

The Mmane Joanah Foundation recently hosted a pregnancy awareness camp at Monate Lodge in Mokopane.

POLOKWANE – The camp focused on creating awareness for teenage pregnancy and equip the young girls who attended with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions when it comes to sex.

The three day camp is a direct response to the high rate of pregnancy among youth and it explored the various things that they will encounter as they grow up and how to avoid falling into traps that can be life altering.

There were 20 girls that took part in the camp, which takes place on a quarterly basis. “Our camp is all about restoring the culture of good life, morals as well as creating awareness on teenage pregnancy,” explained Mmane Joanah Ngoasheng, the founder of Mmane Joanah Foundation. With this camp, she explained that the girls were prepared for their teenage years and why sexual abstinence is important.

“We wanted them to see the good in abstaining from sex, even as they go through their teens struggling with hormones, peer pressure and other external influences. We are teaching them how to behave and to give them a brand new purpose in life. We also opted to take them to lodge because of their backgrounds, we want to treat them and give them that experience of going beyond their daily lives. This is also to alleviate the curiosity of wanting to be taken to a lodge that is being financed by someone in exchange for sex,” she said.

Ngoasheng is offering her assistance to people who would like to their children to receive guidance relating to teenage pregnancy. The camp is open to girls between 12 to 18-years-old. You can reach Ngoasheng at 072 1788892.
