Man (37) believed to be linked to cross border smuggling syndicate arrested near Musina

The vehicles were recovered at the Hendrik Verwoerd tunnel near Musina on Friday morning, 21 December, following a high speed chase.

LIMPOPO – A joint operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit and crime intelligence has resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old suspect believed to be linked to a cross border stolen vehicles smuggling syndicate.

According to the Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, the Hawks acted on intelligence received regarding two vehicles (A Ford Everest and a Chevrolet Cruze) that were allegedly stolen in Gauteng en-route to Zimbabwe.

“The vehicles were recovered at the Hendrik Verwoerd tunnel near Musina on Friday morning, 21 December, following a high speed chase, however, one suspect managed to get away,” he said.

Maluleke added that an investigation to ascertain the originality of the recovered vehicles is underway and the suspect is expected to appear at the Makhado Magistrates Court on Monday, 24 December.

The search for the other outstanding suspect(s) continues.
