Samaritan House is slowly finding its feet again

The center which found itself in hot water earlier this year for not meeting the standards for caring for children, was given a clear in June to continue to have children in their care.

POLOKWANE – Samaritan House is a tale of a rising phoenix from the ashes.

The home has since been embarking on projects to ensure the smooth running of the centre. Recently, 20 fully programmed computers with educational programmes to the value of R52 000 were donated by Polokwane Info – Reworx to assist with the children’s education.

Another of the projects that is set to legitimise the reopening and running of the home is the fun walk which was given the thumbs up by various stakeholders who showed support. The 5 km fun walk took place on 1 December and started at Savannah Mall.

With support from Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club, revving up engines to motivate the walkers, participants enjoyed a fun filled day. The fun walk was enjoyed by Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) Mayor, John Mpe and Dr Phophi Ramathuba, MEC of Health, Mzansi athletes and Sapa Yopa bikers.

Sapa Yopa donated R700 and 500 bottles of water towards the Samaritan House, CDM donated blankets and the administration fees for the event, Mzansi Athletics Club also assisted with registration and made a donation of food and gifts.

Rev Tracking donated a thousand bottles of water towards the race, Madijo Trading Enterprises provided the branding of the T-shirts and Polokwane Info – Reworx who is the official partner of the home sponsored marketing for the event.

“We thank all the various stakeholders that supported the day. We also thank the community for accepting the organisation and being aware of the importance of the work that it does.

“It takes a village to raise a child and today was a testimony that the Samaritan House has always been capable, and with the partners that we have attained thorough the process of organising this event, we are looking at improving the home and the quality of work that we do.

“We are opening ourselves up for scrutiny and showing that we are being transparent in the running of the home,” said Thuto Mashego, the Samaritan House fundraising manager.

He further requested the community to assist the home in any way, but placed emphasis that the children at the home need time.

He pleaded for people to come spend time with the children during the festive season.
