Consumers in high-laying areas of the city experienced low pressure and water shortages for more than a week due to restricted inflow of water from the Olifantspoort plant caused by muddy raw water flowing in from areas that were affected by heavy rain and wind.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo reported on Tuesday that the Potgieter Avenue reservoir was at 0%, while the 50 and 30 mega litre reservoirs were at 16% and 5% respectively. The old 30 mega litre reservoir was at 3% while the level of the Seshego reservoir was at 10%. The flow from the Ebenezer Dam was 154 litres per second. Mothapo did not indicate when water supply to all parts of the city would be restored.
The schedule on the Department of Water and Sanitation’s website indicated that the levels of the Dap Naudé and Magoebaskloof dams were at 75,1% and 100,1%. The Ebenezer Dam was at 69,3%, while the levels of the Flag Boshielo and Hans Merensky dams were at 76,2% and 78,6% respectively.
