Herman makes Lim tent pegging team

Herman Fourie, a Grade 9 learner from Stanford Lake College is among five junior riders from the Limpopo Equestrian Tent Pegging Association selected to represent the province at the upcoming interprovincial tournament that was hosted in Bethlehem, Free State, on Monday and Tuesday. Three of the other riders are from Lephalale and another from Mookgophong.
Tent pegging, a cavalry sport of ancient origin, is one of only ten equestrian disciplines officially recognised by the International Equestrian Federation. Formerly known as gymkhana it involves swords and lances with which the rider has to strike a grounded object at full gallop.
The main requirements for success are a well-schooled horse and a confident, focussed rider who fully commands the interaction with his steed. The code is registered with the South African Equestrian Federation (SAEF).
