“Festive Greetings to everyone.
I take this opportunity to send my warmest greetings and Christmas wishes to everyone in Limpopo. It is during this time that most of us take long trips to various destinations across the country and beyond its borders. We take notice and welcome those who will be visiting our province.
It is in our duty as the South African Police Service to see to it that all of us stay and feel safe during this Festive Season. As history has taught us, the Festive Season brings with it challenges such as theft, robbery, hi-jacking, domestic violence, assault and murder.
As such we have put in place strategies to combat and prevent crimes in all the crime hotspots in the province. Let us all take into consideration the safety precautions as our means to defend ourselves against falling prey to the criminals that are making our lives difficult.
During this time, opportunistic criminals prey on unsuspecting victims who are often caught off-guard. Be careful with your money especially at the ATMs, shopping complexes and avoid carrying around a lot of cash. Be discreet when paying out stokvel money to avoid unnecessary attention. Don’t allow strangers to help you to withdraw money or do any transactions for you. Keep your doors locked during the night to deny criminals easy access to your property and stealing your valuables.
In the recent past, we experienced numerous car accident fatalities along the N1 road and that has caused a great concern to everyone on the road. We can’t speculate on the cause of these accidents but we believe that speeding, drinking and driving, texting and driving, ignoring road signs, overloading and improper weight distribution on trailers and big trucks, fatigue, talking on the cell phone while driving, road rage and non-roadworthy vehicles are major causes of the accidents. I urge you to drive with caution and respect the rules of the road. We need to be responsible and accountable for our actions. Let’s arrive alive.
During this time, let’s ensure that precautionary measures are adhered to when using fire crackers as children and animals might get injured.
As the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, it is my wish to see all citizens of this country take the responsibility and partner with the Police in the fight against crime, and report all the criminal and suspicious activities. We also welcome all the information that can assist us to put the perpetrators behind bars and your identity will be withheld. Let’s all abide by the law of this country during this time.
As we approach Christmas and New Year, I would to like wish you well in your merriments this Festive Season.”
