[WATCH] 101 illegal gambling machines found in around Limpopo destroyed

The MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Environment & Tourism, Seaparo Sekoati says these machines were collected from different spaza shops situated in and around our communities

POLOWKANE – MEC Sekoati ordered the disposal of 101 illegal gambling machines at a facility in Ladanna this morning, 7 December.

Spokesperson for the Department, Zaid Kalla says the Limpopo Gambling Board, together with the South African Police Services, had during the past sixteen months engaged in a door-to-door crackdown within various communities targeted at illegal gambling facilities. A total of 101 illegal gambling machines were confiscated during the operations.

“The Limpopo Gambling Board has since opened case dockets against the spaza shop owners of the illegal gambling operations and most of these illegal gambling hot-spots were operating from spaza shops within our communities. Illegal gambling machines usually invites crime within the area as such machines are usually expected to contain money,” he said.

The Department of Economic Development, Environment & Tourism has urged communities to report any form of suspicious gambling machine to the South African Police Services or the Limpopo Gambling Board (015 230 2300).
