“Olifantspoort plant has stopped because all we are receiving is mud” says Lepelle Northern Water

The Polokwane Municipality says they will deploy water tankers to affected areas.

POLOKWANE –  The Olifantspoort Plant is running at low capacity due to poor raw water quality with a raw water NTU level at 48 000NTU, says Lepelle Northern Water.

“The plant has stopped because all we are receiving now is mud. We will go back to full capacity when the raw water quality improves,” they said.

This means that the water from the river has a high mud content and other debris as a result of heavy rains which makes the purification process difficult and has potential to damage the purification system.

The Polokwane Municipality says all areas of supply will be affected and as a result, water tankers will be deployed to affected areas.
