Wife’s body found inside pit, husband and friend arrested

A 36-year-old husband and his accomplice will appear before the Nkowankowa Magistrate court outside Tzaneen tomorrow (Tuesday, 4 December) in connection with the brutal murder of his wife.

LIMPOPO –  The duo were arrested shortly after the body of the deceased, Lindiwe Nokeri (4o) was found inside a pit in their yard at Babanana village in the Nwamitoa area over the weekend, said Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

A search operation for the deceased commenced on 30 November after the suspect and husband of the deceased, reported to the police that his wife was missing. He alleegd he left her at home but when he returned she was nowhere to be found.

“The police jointly with the Search and Rescue Team and other role players resumed with the search operation which led to the discovery of the woman’s body inside a deep pit hole in the yard of their home at around 22:00 on Saturday 1 December. Subsequent to this, the deceased’s husband and his 30-year-old friend were arrested.”

The motive behind this killing is unknown at this stage but domestic violence cannot be ruled out. The Police investigations are still continuing, Ngoepe added.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned this senseless killing especially during a period where the country is focusing on the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children with the sole aim of squeezing all gender based crimes to zero.

“The Police are going to deal with perpetrators of these crimes harshly and without compromise ,” General Ledwaba concluded.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
