LIMPOPO – Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba has has learnt with sadness the news of four medical doctors who were injured and calls for a permanent solution must be found to sort out the challenges on that stretch of road, Neil Shikwamba, spokesperson for the department said.
The doctors were travelling to Johannesburg from Polokwane where they had come to perform cardiothoracic slate at Netcare Pholoso Hospital.
MEC Ramathuba has further called on road users to be vigilant and cautious while various government entities work together to find a permanent solution to the accident prone stretch of road between Polokwane and Kranskop.
“A permanent solution must be found to sort out the challenges on that stretch of road. Truth is, injuries from motor vehicle accidents also cause a strain on the department of health. Whenever an accident happens, we must dispatch emergency services and also pathological services if there are fatalities, we must also provide hospital facilities and at times perform operations. These are resources which can be saved and be diverted to other functions if people can be cautious on our roads, rest when they are tired and stick to provided speed limit,” said Ramathuba.
These doctors came to Limpop to probide a specialised serbice and to have all four admitted all at once during this critical time leaves a huge gap in the health care fraternity, she concluded.
