Third suspect arrested in connection with robbery at Manganeng Clinic

The suspect was arrested at his friends house near Jane Furse

LIMPOPO – The Police in Sekhukhune, assisted by members of the Provincial Task Team that was established to investigate criminal cases affecting hospitals and clinics in the province, have in the early hours of Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man and one of the four suspects responsible for the recent robbery at a Manganeng Clinic and local tuckshop at Manganeng village.

The robberies were committed on Sunday and the suspects was arrested at 04:00 today at his friends house in Mashishing village, Jane Furse, said Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

During the incident one suspect was fatally shot during a shootout with the police after he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot towards the nearby mountain. Another was arrested when he attempted to open a false case of car hijacking in Jane Furse police station.

“A fourth suspect, believed to be in possession of the firearm that was robbed from a security officer at the said clinic, is still on the run and the team is hard at work tracing him. The police are calling on Percy from ga-Phaahla a Manoge to avail himself at any police stataion. It is believed he might assist the police with the investigation of these cases and we urge anyone who sees him, to contact the nearest police station,” Mojapelo added.

 

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has hailed all members involved and urged them to continue tracing the remaining suspect. “The arrest of these suspects will add impetus on our efforts of restoring the safety of our health workers in hospitals and clinics,” concluded General Ledwaba.

The latest arrested suspect will appear in Sekhukhune Magistrate Court tomorrow on a charge of armed robbery.
