[UPDATE] Two doctors shot and one attacked with sharp object during robbery at Letaba Hospital

Cases of attempted murder and house robbery have been opened by Limpopo police

LIMPOPO – Police have launched a massive manhunt for a group of five armed suspects who broke into the doctor’s residence at Letaba Hospital in Tzaneen in the early hours of this morning, robbing the residents of valuable goods.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the incident took place at around 03:15 this morning, 22 November.

“A couple (both doctors) were asleep when the suspects broke into their house and attacked them. The male doctor was shot and the perpetrators managed to get away with a television and cellphones. The suspects proceeded to another house where they attacked another couple, shooting a male doctor in the process and assaulting his wife with a sharp objec and got away with a television set, cellphones, a tablet, laptops and cash,” Ngoepe explained.

The injured victims were taken to hospital where they are still recuperating.

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has established a task team, led by a Major General, to pursue the suspects.

“Members of this task team have been instructed to hunt these suspects down and bring them to book as speedily as possible. I call on our communities to work with the police to ensure a speedy detection of these suspects,” Ledwaba concluded.
