[TAKE NOTE] Streets in and around Polokwane Civic Centre to be closed on Friday for military parade

The affected roads will be blocked off from around 07:00

POLOKWANE – Some streets in and around the Civic Centre building will be temporarily closed on Friday morning (23 November) to allow Regiment Christiaan Beyers to exercise their right and privilege of freedom of entry to the city.

According to a statement issued by the Polokwane Municpality, the regiment is based in Polokwane and was granted the freedom of the city in 2013 by Council. This allowed them the privilege to march into the city with drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed. The last pass march was made in 2016.

The unit will gather at the Shoprite parking area at around 07:00 and march down Thabo Mbeki, Paul Kruger, Landros Mare, Hans van Rensburg and Rissik Streets. The march will end on Church Street in front of the Jack Botes Hall, where the Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng will observe the parade at around 08:30.

“As a result, there will be temporary disruption of normal traffic on the streets mentioned as they will be cordoned off in the morning to allow the parade by the military. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during this period. Church, Bodenstein, Landros Mare, Paul Kruger and Thabo Mbeki Streets that block the Civic Centre building will be affected. Members of the public are also invited to witness this historical moment for City,” the municipality concluded.
