Some streets in the central business district (CBD) of the city will be closed for traffic from 07:00 tomorrow (Friday) to allow members of Regiment Christiaan Beyers to exercise their right of freedom of the city. The streets should be open to normal traffic again by 12:00.
Regiment Christiaan Beyers is Polokwane based and the unit will march from the Shoprite parking area, affecting Thabo Mbeki, Kerk, Paul Kruger, Landdros Maré, Hans van Rensburg, Bodenstein and Rissik streets. The march will culminate in a parade in Church Street opposite Jack Botes Hall, where Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng will officiate at approximately 08:30.
The regiment was granted the freedom of the city in 2013. This allows them the privilege to march through the city to drumbeat, flying their colours and with bayonets fixed.
