The generosity of three Pemps Grade R alumni, Imani Naledzani, Dimpho Ledwaba and Rotshidzwa Ratshibvumo ushered in a new era for their alma mater this week when the school could open its own cycling track. The trio entered the Cashbuild annual Art-at-Heart competition for Grade R learners last year and won the contest.
Their prize money, a R15 000 Cashbuild voucher, was used to purchase building material for the cycling track constructed in the school yard. Speaking at the opening of the track at the school last Friday, Pemps Principal Karin Adlem said they were very proud of the learners. ‘They did us proud. We have many recreational facilities at the school but we did not have the cycling track. The track will be used by our learners to develop their muscles and gross motor skills.”
Flippie du Plessis, Divisional Manager at Cashbuild Polokwane said the competition is aimed at giving the learners an opportunity to showcase their art talent. ‘Moreover, this is our way of giving back to the community because some of the schools that participated in the competition are in our area of operation.”
