Two of the four SABC Park escapees have escaped from police custody before

POLOKWANE – Following the escape of four awaiting trial prisoners near SABC Park on Wednesday afternoon, 14 November, Review did some digging up of past articles to find that two of the four escapees have in fact escaped from lawful custody before.

In April 2017, both Thomas Nkuna (34) and Abel Modiba (31) also known as ‘ABSA’, escaped from the police holding cells in Haenertsburg.

At the time of their escape, police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the incident was uncovered during a routine check in and around the cells and that the circumstances surrounding the escape were still being investigated.

In addition to two escapes, Thomas Nkuna had also been involved in the attack of an elderly couple in Haenertsburg in January 2017 and was arrested following a manhunt.

Both Nkuna and Modiba were two of four awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the back of a moving police van on the corner of Hospital and Landros Maree Street on Wednesday afternoon, 14 November.

Police are appealing to anyone with information which can lead to the re-arrest of these escapees to contact Colonel Linky Mathebula on 064 756 8218; Detective Warrant Officer Andrew Ngamuni on 082 414 3031; the crime stop number 0860010111; the crime line SMS 32211 or the nearest police station.
