Tenants and shoppers were in for a surprise when Mall of the North management decided on implementing an emergency fire drill on Tuesday morning.
General Manager Sumari de Ridder explained that the mall had simulated an emergency evacuation earlier this year but Tuesday’s simulation in the form of a fire drill was the first for the year.
“A total of 1 325 tenants and staff members as well as several shoppers participated in the drill. Though we still had to ask some participants to hurry to the nearest exit, the event can be described as successfully executed,” she said, adding that the exercise was also conducted in preparation for the Festive Season.
Tenants and shoppers gathered at the various assembly points where dedicated management members conducted a rollcall to determine whether any staff member might have been left behind in the building.
