Kayla takes special effects makeup to a new level

21-year-old makeup artist from Polokwane, Kayla Serekela, has a rare talent when it comes to special effects makeup.

POLOKWANE – Teaching herself how to apply makeup and working on sets of short films was how Kayla realised her dream

“I started in December 2016 when I was called to work for a production company for a short film in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. I was an actress but I helped out with makeup too. Then as time went on, I used to watch TV and think that the scars and open wounds could and can look much more real and convincing. I always hoped and always wished to get into the extreme makeup industry but I always delayed it. That was until Gami Swaga, a DJ and art director, told me I should really consider learning special effect makeup as he saw how good my work is,” she explained.

The special effects makeup artist says she dreams of doing makeup for big film and stage production companies so that she grow as a brand.

“Applying makeup is a skill, it takes a lot of of practicing and learning, as well research, so that one can get it right. It also allows me to explore my artistry and creativity levels because art brings what is visioned to life so I like how I can allow people to see the ideas I have through my work, or even convey a certain message through a stage play, film, music video,” she concluded.
