“The VBS scandal is bigger than we all see… To some it is life and death. They can kill at any given chance.”
The message circulated via a social media platform carries a distinct warning after leaders of Save The ANC forum, that was formed after the VBS Mutual Bank saga was exposed, have reportedly been threatened to step down on the contentious issue.
Along with threats directed at forum leaders came the reported warning from the state security agency that they were being considered a threat in the greater scheme of things, indicated a Save The ANC forum spokesperson whose name is being withheld. According to him the warning that has been extended also included some African National Congress (ANC) provincial leaders.
It was evident that if forum leaders were vocal on the matter, they would follow the same route as the Thohoyandou lawyer who allegedly got shot for his defence of three union members after reportedly being charged with bringing Vhembe District Municipality into disrepute by raising the VBS matter, he stressed. Polokwane Observer reported on it in last week’s edition.
He stated that they wouldn’t stand down from vocalising what they believed in. “We’re being threatened, but we are still going to fight because this is too big.”
Via a WhatsApp message forwarded to members of Save The ANC forum yesterday (Wednesday) morning, he alerted them on the situation and advised them to take precautionary measures and act with care. “The VBS scandal is bigger than we all see… To some it is life and death. They can kill at any given chance.”
In the message he called on members to save the soul of the ANC and fight to the bitter end.
Another Save The ANC leader informed Polokwane Observer that she had received threats via anonymous calls and messages to her cell phone the past few days, threatening her to stop what they were doing otherwise she and her children would disappear.
She said despite the threats against her she had also been warned to take care by persons concerned about her safety. She added that she had opted to stay away from a meeting of her ANC branch in Giyani on Tuesday afternoon as she didn’t feel safe after fellow-members attempted to attack her on Sunday for raising a matter during a branch meeting that formed part of the ANC’s list conference nomination processes.
