Winnie Baloyi, Administration and Council Support Manager of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, was inaugurated as National President of the Institute of Municipal Administration of Southern Africa (Imasa) during the institute’s 20th Annual General Meeting and Conference that took place in George in the Western Cape recently. Baloyi is a former Chairperson of the Limpopo branch of Imasa and recently celebrated her decade of membership of Imasa.
In her acceptance speech, Baloyi is quoted to have said that she is humbled by the confidence shown by members in electing her for this position. “Throughout the years, I allowed myself to learn, ask questions and observe from those who were in leading positions, with more knowledge and experience than me. My journey of learning still continues! I know this is not only a title, but it comes with lot of responsibilities, hard work, sacrifices and commitment.
Baloyi said that Imasa is recognised as a major role player in local government and to retain this recognition, members need to give back to their respective municipalities the knowledge gained from conferences, workshops and trainings.
“Change should actually start with us and make a difference in the administration of the municipalities we serve. The country is waiting for us! It is time that we go back to basics and cultivate the spirit of serving.
“It should not be about how much we earn, but to which extent we contribute to make a difference in local government and our lovely country, South Africa,” Baloyi said.
