Pieter Ferns owns a shop in the area and says he and other employees were busy in the back when they heard people screaming and ran to the shop entrance to investigate.

“As robbery is rife in this area, we went to look if we could assist. It was then that we saw how people were taking boxes of six-pack yogurts and bags of flour from the truck.”

“It looked as though the load had started falling off and we surmise that is what triggered the looters, however, all we could do was stand there powerless as they people looted the stock.”

In 20 minutes everything was over and those that had stolen the groceries later stood on the sidewalks selling it to passerbys, he added.

Everything that they did not carry away, they damaged,” he concluded.

According to a source this was expired stock and was being transported to a facility to be destroyed.
