The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is awaiting a directive following a recommendation pertaining to office-bearers and members implicated in the VBS Mutual Bank saga by the party’s National Integrity Commission.
Following its meeting on the weekend, the ANC’s National Integrity Commission has seemingly decided to recommend that the members implicated should be directed to step aside from all leadership positions and ANC activities.
The directive is awaited from the organisation’s national executive, upon conclusion of a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that is reportedly currently deliberating on, among others, the issue.
ANC Limpopo PEC spokesperson, Donald Selamolela informed Polokwane Observer that the PEC was awaiting the directive from the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) once they had received a directive from the NWC in turn.
Selamolela confirmed authenticity of a statement issued by the ANC’s Integrity Commission Chairperson, George Mashamba, and circulating this morning (Monday). In the statement Mashamba is quoted saying that having considered the matter the commission was of the view that the reputation and credibility of the ANC had been seriously damaged. “To protect the integrity and reputation of the ANC, the National Integrity Commission recommends to the National Executive Committee that these members should be directed to step aside from all leadership positions and all activities of the ANC.”
