POLOKWANE – Mokgaetji Hlaka, and Thapelo Maruma, both from Seshego Zone 3, have embarked on a Back Pack Drive to help disadvantaged learners from Boiketlo and surrounding schools.

Hlaka said the idea was to help learners who went to the school carrying their books in plastic bags.

“We agreed with Boiketlo to donate 73 backpacks, and so far we managed to donated 26 backpacks to Gr R and Gr 1 learners.”
He said the rest of the donation will follow. We encourage other people to come forward and donate. We can’t control the quality of life these kids have in their homes, but we surely can make school pleasant for them. The challenges that we came across is that we are not registered as a non-profit organisation so most of the people think this will benefit us and not the disadvantaged learners,” said Hlaka.

She said they were targeting schools in Seshego in particular.

“If the school identified the learners who really need the backpacks, we will by all means ask for a donation and hand them over to the disadvantaged learners. I’ve seen that parents can’t afford to buy their kids things they need, and it’s really important that the kids have the tools they need to succeed. It’s super important to invest in these students now and help build them into the future leaders.

Boiketlo Principal, Charles Mojapelo said the donation will help learners carry their books with proper backpacks. “As a school we are delighted to see young people coming to our school to help where they can,” said Mojapelo.
