Two men arrested for allegedly stealing 18 sheep near Matlala

A manhunt is currently underway for one of the suspects who managed to flee after being stopped by police

POLOKWANE –  Police in Matlala have made a breakthrough in the fight against stock theft in the area after two male suspects were arrested in possession of suspected stolen sheep.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Marobo Seabela, a stock theft operation was conducted till the early hours of Wednesday morning, 24 October and resulted in the arrest of the two suspects who were found in possession of 18 sheep, suspected to be stolen. The suspects are believed to be from Tzaneen.

“The three suspects were driving an Isuzu bakkie between Chloesdam and Vlakfontein village along the Matlala road. They were stopped by the police and one suspect managed to flee into the nearby bushes and vanished. The remaining two suspects were arrested on the spot for being in possession of suspected stolen livestock. The suspects are expected to appear in the Matlala Periodical Court, soon,” Seabela said.
